I am referring to the ones that are all one piece - can you tile on the part above the tub?

I wouldn't.... they would not hold the weight of the tile and they do flex to a certain extent which could cause larger tiles to crack. The finish on the plastic may also prevent the tile adhesive from adhering well and you would have tile falling off..... if you want to tile, remove the plastic surround and do the job properly with all the correct materials

We tore ours out years ago and found it thin and glued randomly in place with a caulk like construction adhesive. Looking at how ours was installed Im not cetain its thick or substantial enough to support ( heavy) weight of tile sufficiently cosidering the rounded corners and this prior adhesive application. We tore ours out redid the wall replaced with a new fiberglass tub, put in corner soap holders and did the subway tile, completely happy with the renovation.
