You mark a line down the middle of the longest length of the room and then another at the middle of the shorter side. Since you see the middle of the floor first, you generally want to keep full tiles there. You start tiling at the sides, but if you've already marked your centers and know how much space you'll put in-between the tiles (the grout lines) then you have a good idea of which tiles need to be cut. Those go around the edges.
