While there are myriad closet organization 'tools' (shelving, systems, etc.), when I first started my own closet makeover, I began by going through the clothes I had in there. I ended up donating almost half of my wardrobe as there were things in there I hadn't worn in years. Once I minimized what I had in the closet, I realized putting a small dresser in one area worked perfectly. It even gave me more room in my bedroom.

Is there a theme you're considering and/or using in the rest of your home? Adding artwork and/or mirrors helps small places (even big closets) seem roomier and fresh. Oh, and a nice bright coat of paint!

Home improvement stores now have a variety of closet “systems” that are affordabl. Here is how mine looks: Cabinet with double hung rods to one side and taller rod to other wall. Underneath the tall rod is a shoe rack and an IKEA drawer set left from another hose closet system.
