How do I make storm shutters for sliding glass doors?
I have 6 large pieces of wood that are drilled so I can hook them in place onto pegs that have been installed around each glass door panel. I hang the wood and bolt them in place each time of a hurricane. The wood is warping and heavy. The wood panels are stacked and stored next to the doors that are on the second story of the house (too heavy to put in garage between uses). Anyone know of a better system?

Perhaps you can cut the pieces down in size so that they are not so heavy. You could then put small pieces of wood to seal the areas where the pieces come together or use something like gorilla tape to seal where they come together. I had gorilla tape on my convertible top to cover a rip caused by an ice sickle falling off the edge of the house. It stayed on it for three years before the car died, through Minnesota winters and hot humid weather and never loosened. Regular duct tape lasted about two weeks before it would loosen when driving on the freeway in any weather. If you replace the wood in the future, I would suggest coating the wood on every inch with Marine polyurethane in at least three or more thin coats to protect it from the weather and humidity that may be causing the warping from sitting outside. If you split the pieces you may be able to store them in the garage that will shelter them at least from the rain and some humidity. For now, try putting some concrete blocks on top of the pile of wood and see if some weight will help straighten the wood for you, I am not an expert, but I would think the warp in the wood may cause some trouble with the integrity of the shutters staying over the sliding glass doors in the event of a hurricane by letting the winds get under the wood.

You could build them out of thick plywood and put them on with heavy hinges and close from the outside and lock
