Front door awning.

When it rains, rain comes in between my screen and front door. This actually causes the flooring inside the door to get very wet. The floor is now soft. Before I can fix the floor, I need to fix the water issue.

I want to build an awning to go over my front door. I have a double wide with siding on it.

I need plans for a simple frame, but I want it to look nice. I am going to use corrugated tin for the covering.

  • We built something like this for our porch that isn’t covered. Every time it rained and someone opened door, it just poured in. You can put tin on top of this structure too. We love building structures like this because they are sturdy and look nice! We built a pergola in a similar manner, but did an awning for the porch. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4iJLcxe99KU

    • The link below from another Home talker is a good one. This isn’t a pergola, it’s how we built an awning. I was just saying it’s similar to a pergola build in structure. 4x4s are always better for stability in weather and when adding a top if using wood. If you are interested in using aluminum tubing, this is a great tutorial: https://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-build-an-awning-frame

If need quick fix, can you cover the screen door w/some form of plastic, or acrylic covering til you are ready to build awning?

https://mobilehomepartsstore.com/category/AWC.html Might be, in the long run, a better solution; You might check with Lowes/Home Depot -- they also have installers that work for them for various small installation projects ...

Before you build the awning be sure to fix the water leak. I live in a mobile home too and during a hail storm I had a leak from the same place as yours in my house. I thought I could claim on insurace but they insisted that I hadn't maintained it well enough. I had never thought of that before and it ended up costing me a lot of money. However, there is an easy fix that a professional can do. I also used the hose pipe up there to make sure it didn't leak afterwards, and haven't had an issue since. These insurance companies will wriggle out of paying if you aren't careful.

The water leak is fixed, but to stop the water from coming in the door, I still need to extend out over the door a little. An awning would do that and also give a little protection for the elements when I am fumbling to find the keys in my purse.

What was it that you used a hose pipe for??
