How can I build low budget DIY deck railings?

I just had a composite deck put on. The village inspection does not require railings. However, there is three steps down to the ground. The budget did not include railings but now because of the steps I feel for safety reasons I want to add some type of barrier or railing. This was not in the budget. Any ideas or pictures of what some of you have done on a very small budget would be appreciated.

Hi Tinna, we have the same situation and with our composite deck on our front porch and there are 3 steps down to our walkway. We didn't use any railings and I still think it looks great. What we did was put in a couple of columns in the front of the house at the front of the deck and then planted bushes in front. You can see the picture here...
Just an idea if you don't really need a railing and don't have a the budget for it.
Tinna: maybe a row of potted plants will be the answer -- and look pretty!

Here are a few examples of materials other than lumber used for railings and balusters.
You can add evenly spaced large flower pots. or for a railing you can add treated 4x4" lumber onto little concrete tub pads with anchors to screw them in. Then add you cross material to the posts, lumber, or rope.
