I think the short posts weathered gray with stain and then rope hanging in between each post would be great!
We cut landscape timbers into varying short lengths, then soaked them in wood preservative. Dug a trench around the bed and 'planted' the pieces, side by side, until we'd gone the periphery of the planting bed. The result looked like snaggle teeth. We then filled in the trench with the dirt that came out of it, picking it in tightly as we did final adjustments. Second Tim I've used this technique and I'm definitely a fan. It has a nautical feeling without being in your face.
You can DIY some light houses out of either terra cotta pots, or plastic, put solar path lights on top. Place them at the ends, and one or two more in between , then post nautical rope in between. You can also DIY oars, cut the shape out of boards, and paint,place length wise on short posts. And one more, make garland style, with rope and wood “ nautical flags”.
