Hi Becca, a start by scraping as much of the major gunk away and disposing of it. Then pour a couple of cups of ammonia into a large glass bowl and place in your oven overnight. This will soften all the grease and caked on matter. Carefully remove the bowl of ammonia and clean as much of the gunk off with paper towels. Then clean with an old towel or cloth using Dawn dish washing soap and very hot water. The Dawn will help eliminate the greasiness. You may need to do this again, for a very dirty oven. Be very careful with the ammonia as it is very caustic to skin a sand eyes. I use a similar method to clean the grates on my bbq grill. Just add ammonia to a heavy duty plastic garbage bag and let set with the grates inside and well tied off bag and then can easily rinse all the gunk off the grates the next day.

Easy off oven cleaner, follow directions on can OR---To clean your oven with ammonia, warm it to 150 F and then turn it off. Put 1/2 cup of ammonia into an oven-safe bowl on the top shelf and a pan of boiling water on the shelf beneath it. Shut the door and let it sit overnight. With either method wipe it out with wash cloth & hot water, green scrubber sponge & comet mixed with dawn dish on any left over burnt gunk,electric--remove racks and lift/pull up electric element to wipe out bottom of stove til it's done. turn oven on let heat up before you cook anything in it to make sure you don't get any smelly food
I use a bowl of ammonia also, it does the trick. Let the bowl of ammonia sit undisturbed overnight in your oven. the fumes actually do the work. Next day clean with blue dawn dishsoap and hot water, rinse. Repeat if needed.
I also let my pan grates soak in a heavy duty ziploc bag with 1/2 cup ammonia overnight-do this outside, then rinse off.
Oh, be sure to wear plastic gloves.
