You could try Dollar Tree Awesome Degreaser and use a toothbrush. And if it has a temperature control, turn it down a bit.
Depends on what this is coated with. I would use a scrub sponge. Green on the scrub part, and a yellow top. J.
I wonder if you heated it up so that the grease got soft and then closed it on an absorbent cloth (or maybe thick bounty paper towels)....if the cloths would absorb the grease. Probably worth trying. I think at any rate, you'd want to sop the grease up once its soft from being heated.
I would defintly NOT use any kind of easy-off type cleaners. does your waffle iron have a teflon coating
you should be fine with using some kind of spray on degreaser
