I use a "pumie stick" for hard water stains and brown rings around the toilet. It works great, and costs just a few dollars in the supermarket cleaning aisle.

THANKS JOY, I'VE TRIED ALL OF THOSE BASIC IDEAS BUT NONE OF THEM WORK

THERE WAS A SUGGESTION AT ONE TIME, BY ONE OF YOUR READERS, TO USE "AWESOME" THERE ARE SEVERAL "AWESOME" PRODUCTS, ALSO I DID NOT GET ALL DIRECTIONS AND I DELITED IT BY ACCIDENT. I WOULD LIKE TO TRY THAT SYSTEM, THE GENTLEMAN WHO POSTED THAT SAID IT WORKED ON VERY BAD BROWN RINGS. MY TOILT IS VERY OLD AND THE SECOND ONE, IS FAIRLY NEW, IS STARTING TO TURN AND I WOULD LIKE TO GET TO THAT ONE BEFORE IT GETS WORSE. I WAS TOLD IT HAD TO DO WITH THE WATER AND THE MATERIALS USED TO MAKE THE TOILETS. I RENT, AND I HATE THE OF THAT RING!

Newer toilets are not fans of bleach, which can adversely affect the porcelain. Your hard water is most likely the culprit. Is your landlord willing to install a water treatment system for the entire building?

My solution was the pumice stick. This is excellent way to remove stains and rings in the toilet. When commercial toilet cleaners fail -this is my go to. Great for thick crusted calcium mineral build up that the toilet waterbowl collcts.

They are found at my local Walmart for less than two dollars -good for multiple uses. Be sure to follow the use instructions, soaking the pumice stone in water for a few minutes. While the stone is soaking, grab your toilet brush and splash water up around the ring. Note: It’s very important to keep both the stone and the surface wet while cleaning to avoid scratching your porcelain.

THANKS EVERYONE YOUR SUGESTIONS ARE ALL GREAT AND I'VE TRIED THEM ALL, BUT MY ONE TOILET IS SO OLD, DON'T BELIEVE THE PEOPLE WHO LIVED HERE BEFORE EVER CLEANED IT WHEN IT STARTED TO TURN BROWN, BUT I WILL USE ON THE NEW ONE, WHICH IS JUST STARTING TO FORM BROWN RING.

You might want to get a water softener when this happens so fast and yours is doing it already its hard water that causes it , just saying
