Clr for bathrooms will help the rust stains, the back ring may be mold. Deal with the rust stains first, then try putting vinager in the commode let set over night.

Rustoleum makes a great rust remover. Or you can try CLR. The CLR will remove the black ring on the toilet.

  • Hi Ellie,

If the black ring is slimy it is actually a specific type of bacteria found in rusty water. It may be hard to completely eliminate it. My mom cleans her drain regularly that gets that build up.

As far as rust stains, I have had the best luck using lemon and baking soda. Cut a lemon in half, sprinkle baking soda onto the surface and massage the lemon into the stain. This will create a paste with the lemon juice and making soda, leave there for awhile and then rinse away with hot water. If that doesn't work, I would also try a magic eraser. They are very abrasive so use with caution.

I by the generic brand of magic erasers from the Dollar Tree. Here is a post where I talk about them.
