How can I remove spots from old linen and crochet pieces?

I would soak them in a cold water solution of oxygenated bleach (Oxyclean is a trade name) and Woolite-type soap- for 2 days.

Start out mild and see how they’re looking after rinsing in warm water.

If they’re oxidized food spills, then I would see if they’re making progress after the soaking.

Then I would put hydrogen peroxide on the spots- it may need a drop of clear soap to break the oil-based nature of most holiday food stains (gravy, meat juices, buttered corn, etc).

10% + Food grade hydrogen peroxide (mail ordered, unless your Health Foods Store carries it) will take it out, but it’s to be used with gloves on, as it is caustic at that percentage. Try diluting it to 7% first with distilled water)

If they are rust stains, you’ll need a laundry rust stain remover, like Wink.

You might try soaking in OxyClean.

Hi Bev. My name is Cindy. Start by applying stain remover spray or stick on the spots. Then let the the fabric soak in cold water overnight. Then rinse the fabrics. Repeat if necessary.

Some age spots will bleach out if you lay them out in sunlight for a day. If stains remain, try lemon juice. These are old methods, pre-non-chlorine-bleach, but gentle, and they still work.

Thanks I remember my mother used to use lemon juice on spots!
