I would use water and soap but I don´t know wheter sisal rugs shrink with water. Some stains are from spilling drinks, some others were produced by pets.

I've used vinegar, and it works. Sometimes you need to let it sit and soak. I'm in Fla., and have indoor/outdoor carpets around the pool deck because it gets too hot to walk. On the other hand, summer is rainy season and it's humid for about 4 months. We get a lot of moss and mildew. I've also thrown them over a fence and pressure washed them with a low pressure - sometimes with vinegar sprayed on as well. I had one that was blck with mildew and is as good as new
I use a pressure washer as it’s lying down just move along carpet from one end to the other, close enough to pull off moss. Can add vinegar to the mix that will kill any left over.
use the vinegar .then use your steam iron to clean the spot good luck wayne
