I cannot afford new cabinets right now and the wood cabinets in this house are greasy and dirty. I think they are untreated and a mess. Any ideas? Thanks.

Wash them down with white vinegar and water 50/50

Use Dawn Dish Soap! It works great for cutting through grease and is gentle on surfaces. Just remember to dry off and I would suggest doing one cabinet at a time!

Krud Cutter is a product that I used on my kitchen cupboards prior to chalk painting them...six months in and no problems from any grease being on them.

Hello Azprimrose; If your Cabinets were mine, I would try a test area with white vinegar mixed with water. A ratio of half and half.

I am worried as your Cabinets are not treated!!!

If the vinegar solution leaves a mark, I would then take each Cabinet off and sand them.

I would then prime them and decide on either paint or stain.

I hope that this helps you!!! Good Luck!

Vinegar, a squirt of dish soap, and hot water. Or you could use some PineSol and hot water. A scrubbing and all should come clean. Best of luck.
