How do I remove mildew & mold stains from stripped wood furniture?
I have a wood dry sink from the 1960's that was stripped of its maple finish. It was stored in a damp basement before I received it. It has a damp musty smell, some light mildew areas but also a few dark black patches near the bottom and inside the cabinet. Can I lighten the dark stain area so I can restain it?

Vinegar will kill the mildew , Bleach will whiten it.Fresh lemon rubbed on the spots and set it in the sun. open everything. let nature do its thing.
Thanks, I did the vinegar twice, better but still smells. I will do again and the bleach and sun next!
I have had good luck with this tea tree oil mixture for wood mold. It works better than vinegar and more safe than bleach. http://chemistrycachet.com/the-best-way-to-remove-mold-mildew/
If the mold is very deep in the wood, it will be harder to remove. It is is more on the surface, this will definitely help.
