I usually spray paint them with a good quality primer/paint spray. Rustoleum makes a good one. Just do light coats, giving it time to dry between.

The plastic friendly spray paints work well after appropriate preparation, tho they do show aging after a few years with outdoor seasonal exposure and storage.

First wash them very well, let dry overnight, sand them so any paint you apply adheres well and rinse them again. Give them several light coats instead of a heavy coat. The sanding insures you a better finish and you will also be less likely to have the paint chip of peel off. I did this and just used cheap Walmart paint in a spray can. Chairs looks good several years after painting.
