that is a old tip.any thing with an oily substance will aid in the removal -

I tried it a year ago and it turned the spot dark. Now it's worse. -

Rings usually come from wax on the furniture not working well with the water or condensation from the glass. Best thing is to clean off the wax with lemon oil or some other oil remover that you like. That usually gets rid of the ring. Good luck... -

I use a product called Restore a Finish that works pretty well.
