Try Q-tips or very small paint brushes. See if just using plain water will work first to clean them, that way you won't have to try to rinse them. You could try Windex on one and see if it doesn't damage the rhinestones. Try to keep the purse dry around the rhinestones in case it will change the texture of the purse. You never said what the purse is made out of, so it really is hard to say what you can use without causing damage.

Just make sure you don't get any on the satin, it may discolor it. Try to isolate the satin from the rhinestones.

I would use nail polish remover with KTips or gauze

You want the Rhinestones for wall, or entire purse for wall decor

Mix a quart of warm water with a half cup of windex add half a teaspoon dish soap. Sponge purse with the soltion using a small paint brush lightly. RINSE THE PURSE with cold water.

If you think it will change colors or mottle

in an unusable or unattractive way don't use it.

Thanks. The purse is made of satin, so I'm not sure how it would turn out.

Hello JoAnn; Are the Rhinestones discolored in some way? Also what type of material is the purse made from??

    • JoAnn Bakos JoAnn Bakos on Jul 25, 2017

The rhinestones are not discolored, just a little dull. The purse itself is made of satin. It is probably from the 1940's - 1950's. I think is an evening bag from that era.

Hello JoAnn; Yes, that does sound correct about the age of the piece, as satin was so popular during that time.

If I were going to try and make the Rhinestones have a bit more sparkle, I would use a small dry paint brush.

Aside from that, You can also try and use a cloth which is made for jewelry.

I would not use anything that is wet, as I am afraid that the satin would be ruined.

I hope that this helps you!! Your purse sounds Lovely. Take Care!

I do have a jewelry cloth I could try. I was concerned about using liquids on it. The cloth sounds like a good alternative. Thanks
