Pumice stones work great and you can even buy them in the grocery store, some even come with handles

It's called. The Works toilet bowl cleaner. Dollar General is probably the cheapest place I've seen it. Great on hard water buildup.

I add about a half cup CLR to water in the bowl, slosh it around, and let it sit overnight. It may take several treatments to get it clean depending on how bad it is. If you've scrubbed the stains with an abrasive you will have created very fine scratches that attract the lime in the water and you'll have to soak it more often. The first time I did it some of the deposits were above the water line. To raise the water level for soaking, I plugged up the drain with a rubber ball and layers of thin foam to create a water tight seal. Fill the bowl with enough water to cover the deposits and let it stand. Pain in the neck, but it works.

I got real creative with the stuff I shoved in the hole. Test the seal before you add the CLR. If it seeps out, use rags pushed up against the sides to keep the waterline wet. Since the bowl won't empty all the way you should be able to keep the area damp. My go-to for things like this is to go to a fabric store and get a piece of cotton quilt batting. It hold a liot of water. If you buy the good stuff you can reuse it for all sorts of cleaning. It actually will stick to things like shower walls when soaked with bleach to get rid of mold.

need more info-what color are the stains. Lime build-up, hard water? Glaze could be worn off if it's an old toilet

CLR used to work great but they have taken the chemical out that used to work just like lime away
