I clean my coffee carafe with liquid dishwashing soap. Pour a little in, add some water, use a dishcloth to help swish, boom, you're done and the inside sparkles like new. Coffee stain is gone. Dishwashing soap is a bleach and I use the powder packets sometimes in my washer just for whites.

If it has discolored due to coffee or tea, use dishwasher soap, powdered or liquid. If the stains are mostly towards the bottom, fill to the stain lines with hot water and add a sufficient amount (make a judgement call...I use a teaspoon full for a 10 cup stainless coffee thermos) stir, and let it sit overnight. Comes out like new in the morning.
