First thing I would try is white vinegar. Calphalon makes pans with a variety of metals and finishes. Would help if we knew if these are stainless, hard anodized, Teflon, etc. Just in case the vinegar does not work.

See if vinegar will help, it could be residue from the soap and the water. I wish people be considerate and know what can't be put in the dishwasher. Next time leave instructions that the pots and pans are hand wash and what can and can't be put in the oven at high temps. I have had hand wash pots and pans for years and hubby still wants to put them in the dish washer.

Why are you leaving costly kitchen ware in a rental. There are many less expensive stainless steel or other materials that can go in the dishwasher (try Corningware for some really great pieces). They are good to use and clean up easily and are usually stove/oven/microwave and dishwasher safe.

Calphalon has a lifetime warranty as long it was used under normal household conditions, and putting a pan in a dishwasher seems pretty normal to me. It's not like you were boiling acid or anything! If you can't get it clean with soap and water, I would just return it. I have returned several Calphalon pans to Bed Bath & Beyond, they will take them back even if you can't find the receipt. Although better if you have it. Or, you could send the pan back directly to Calphalon, but then you have to pay for shipping. In either case, if they don't have the exact pan, they will replace with something similar. Good Luck!
