Try plain white toothpaste
For brass, we are told NOT to polish it. Retain the patina, whatever it is. Brass shouldn't be shiny. Takes away the value.
You can purchase a liquid cleaner called BarKeepers Friend that works great on cleaning Brass. Can be found at Walmart, Target, Grocery stores. I see it all the time at Ross Department store.
White (not gel) toothpaste and a damp cloth. A dab of toothpaste on the cloth and gently rub on a circular motion. Not too much pressure. For any intricate detail use a damp toothbrush. I sell a lot of silver, gold, brass, bronze, copper, ceramics, porcelain, watches on Ebay. That is what I use to clean everything. Even cleans sneakers.
