How would you suggest to clean tarnished brass?

I have this beautiful vintage brass leaf trinket tray that has some varnish on it and want to bring it back to life!! What is the best way to clean it with items I may already have in my home?

    Try plain white toothpaste

    For brass, we are told NOT to polish it. Retain the patina, whatever it is. Brass shouldn't be shiny. Takes away the value.

    You can purchase a liquid cleaner called BarKeepers Friend that works great on cleaning Brass. Can be found at Walmart, Target, Grocery stores. I see it all the time at Ross Department store.

    White (not gel) toothpaste and a damp cloth. A dab of toothpaste on the cloth and gently rub on a circular motion. Not too much pressure. For any intricate detail use a damp toothbrush. I sell a lot of silver, gold, brass, bronze, copper, ceramics, porcelain, watches on Ebay. That is what I use to clean everything. Even cleans sneakers.
