Does kitty litter absorb bad smells?

Has anyone ever heard of or used kitty litter to absorb odors in a room? We bought an older home and have a couple of rooms with a strong odor. I think it is like a musty smell. Someone told me to put a pan of kitty litter in the room and it would absorb that odor. Is this true ?

Yes it does work over time. Get rid of musty odors in drawers, closets or rooms by placing a small container of scented cat litter in the affected area. Replace the litter every few days until the odor is gone. ***** http://www.sheknows.com/pets-and-animals/arti...

Yes it is true. Baking soda will also work.

Yes but a quicker solution might be actually using super soda or baking soda. You have to find out the source first, you might need a dehumidifier if it is moistness in the air in general, for floors use the soda overnight and vacuum if they are rugs then shampoo with vinegar. Same if hard wood or vinyl but obviously you mop. vinegar works for walls as well. It seems counterintuitive but rinse after and you won't even smell it.

If it were me, I would use a nice smelling antibacterial product and wash down the ceilings, walls and floors open it all up as much as possible and ventilate with as many fans as possible to take out the old and bring in the new. Get rid of any and all fabric, carpets that may be in there.

You can also put an unsealed container of charcoal out.

I've used crushed charcoal briketts in a box lid or shallow pan to remove even the worst smells in a room. Our tenant moved out, had power shut off and never said anything about moving. Days after realizing they had moved we discovered fish in the refrigerator freezer. Charcoal did the trick. Reason for breaking up the charcoal is more surfaces to absorb the smell.

Rent a ozone machin. These are amazing machines.
