Washing a down comforter

In your answer about machine washing a down comforter, you mentioned using Ivory dish soap. I know that that can be disastrous if too much is used. How much liquid dish soap did you use, and why not just use Ivory liquid for washing machines?

I would wash the comforter in cold water and use detergent like Zero. You do not need much as it really suds up in the cold water. Too much soap and the machine runs longer in order to get rid of the excess soap. Too much soap also turns your laundry grey.
i use a product just for down...usually used for coats, but does comforter’s as well. It’s called “down wash”. Worlds largest on line reatailer Amaz...caries it
I have a huge washing machine and I don't it to wash a comforter that is bigger than a twin. I don't think it would wash or rinse very well. I go to a laundromat that has the big washers and dryers, they come out better in the big dryers anyway, much more fluffy with all the room they have in those big tub dryers.
I work for a company that specializes in down products. Do not use ivory. Down has oils in it that you don't want to strip, much like shampooing hair. Use either a down wash or a good castile soap like Dr Bronners. Just a small squirt of the castile is plenty. Wash on gentle, then dry on medium heat (if the exterior fabric can handle it) and use tennis or racquet balls in the dryer. If you don't have something to knock it around, the down will clump.
