I use to be a professional house keeper (for hire)when I done the stainless steel tops I always removed the enamel caps,then cleaned the body with windex, dish cloth and paper towel to dry it streak free. put the covers back on and its done. You can even remove the chamber knobs so its clean under them. -

I always made a paste of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. smear on, let it sit for a bit, then scrub off with non metallic scrubber.
