Oil on Brick Pavers

My husband's old truck dripped oil on our brick pavers. I have tried to remove the stain with a degreaser and elbow grease, but the stain remains. Help.

Liquid dish soap or laundry detergent will remove most oil stains on pavers. Directly apply the soap to the stain and allow to sit for 20-30 minutes. Then scrub with a nylon bristle brush and rinse with hot water. Repeat this step as needed.

Pavers are porous and "drink in" the oil like concrete, so you may need to draw out the oil. Mix up some TSP with water and absorbent material to make a paste, spread it on the pavers and once the paste is dried, scrape up and toss the mixture.

Absorbent material? Your choices are talcum powder, diatomaceous earth (it's sold for swimming pool filters), or ground up kitty litter (it has to be a powder.) There's also the stuff sold to absorb oil spills, but it needs to be in powder form.

You might have to do this a few times, but the TSP will loosen the oil while the absorbent material will soak in what's loose.

Other options are to ban all vehicles or to replace the pavers. Be patient with the TSP mixture; you might have to apply it more than once, but it might solve you headache.

Try the Super Clean (most people called it the purple stuff). You can get it at most auto parts stores and Walmart.

Try sprinkling baking soda on the oil spots to absorb the oil. Sweep off the baking soda that absorbs the oil. You will need to do this several times, but it has worked for me on our concrete driveway.

There are two oroducts we have used on our new concrete driveway. Occasionally contractors and service people have left oil dpots behind.

Easy off spray for small jobs/ spots we immediately find --OR-- the TSP for larger spots or spots we may have not noticed immediately. We are using a stiff brush to scrub the oil spots out followed by blotting with paprt towels.

Try Kitty Litter. Sprinkle it on and grind it in. Wear some old tennis shoes and do the twist on it. It will absortb the oil and leave no spots.
