Many of these diffusers have a great strong odor and quickly dissipated. If you can feel a slight warm of the white plastic , it is working. If not, the unit has died and needs replacing. You can twist the gray plastic to adjust the amount of scent being dissipated. Hope this helps.
If you've never used these before, be aware that they can pose a fire hazard, due to overheating.
I always unplug them when we are away due to the fire and over heating. I use the bath and body ones only due to the beautiful choices they offer. Also you can remove the cotton wick with pliers and use a few drop in a water/oil diffuser.
This is a fragrance difuser, it draws electric from the outlet it is plugged into, heats the oil/fragrance in the bottom globe. The room air is then scented, the dial on top controls the amount of scent in the room and helps regulate how long the product will last.
It produces heat and my concern would be an opportunity for a fire to start. Also, these scents in the air can trigger breathing problems for someone with respiratory issues.
It is also possible that you stopped smelling the scent. Sometimes we go nose blind to consistent scents. This is why smokers do not know they wreak of tobacco. The same with litter box odors.
Even at the lowest setting, the scent seemed very overwhelming to me. I was looking to replace Bath & Body Works, but this won’t work for me. I gave it away.
Hi I have a hard time with them irritating my eyes. .making me cough. .I ordered a air cleaner from Wal-Mart. .plug in clean the air. .it worked for me. .you got some good answers. .
I have used these for years. Beware! Two of the outlets in my main bathroom stopped working, handy hubby checked breaker box, everything was fine. He went through entire house moving furniture; taking off outlet covers to find the problem. Finally he got to my powder room where I had the exact diffuser plugged in. When he removed the outlet the wires were charred and melted, fortunately the outlet was a gfi and had tripped. If I had it plugged into a regular outlet, I don't know what would have happened. We were lucky there was no fire. My answer to your question is they work best in the trash.
After you have put in your air freshener the dial on top of it just turn it to whichever hole you want the scent to come out of and plug it in. I use them all the time and love the scent it gives. The bigger the hole the more scent it will give you, Hope this helps. Enjoy!!
Possible that the electric current had a surge and diffused an unreasonable amount of smell that overpowered your family.
Call your utility company to possibly check it out.
They may have reports of similar situations.
A better way is a dab of scented oil on a lamp bulb that can be left on like a night light.
You apply before turning it on. It should not cause the bulb to explode or shatter. I've done it often enough and had no problems. But, if you fear it will cause a problem then don't do it.
I'm not a fan of heavy scents, so I avoid these things. I really don't trust the plug-in variety, anyway. I have purchased the Renuzit solids for musty-smelling rooms, they seem okay.
My favorite remedy is a HEPA air purifier. There are lots of them on the market, for various size spaces.
I use these in my bathroom, you have to set it by turning it to how high you want it then it should work.
