Vinegar. Where are the mildew stains??? Vinegar kills mold spores - bleach does not.
Wash it with bleach water if it will tolerate the bleach. That may help with the stain. Vinegar will help with the smell and kill the spores that may be present. If the item can handle it, put it outside to dry so that it can dry out in the fresh air and sunshine.
Kilz primer
Depending on the cause , you will need to fix that first or all your work will be wasted. Wipe the walls down with a week mixtgure of bleach water. When dry wipe down with a vinigar solution. To make the process work faster place a fan in the area to help dry it out.
