Hello! Some may this this is overkill, but in order to really understand the best wood for frames, one must understand the trees the wood comes from and if the trees are soft or hard. It might depend if your going to paint or stain the wood.
The stained woods woukd require a pricer wood grade with nice grain.
Additionally—Consider consignment shops -estate sales -garage sales and even thrift stores for frames that you can put your own artwork or photography in. Frames can be easily repainted, cost very little, glass and mats can be very pricey!
