It really depends on how heavy the wood is, I personally would not expect it to stay up very long. Suggest you look at screws or other methods.

Sure! I would start at the bottom and work your way up the wall, and do small sections at a time, holding them in place with some low tac tape like a wide painters tape. But it should be just fine! Not everyone can swing a hammer! LOL
