Can you paint over vases and change their color to match your new look

I have two vases that are the wrong color for my living room now. I want to paint over their existing color so I can still use them as they're very unusual and tall. Looks like pain maybe is baked on surface is shiny and real smooth. Please someone tell me you have redone something like these vases because I love them.

What are the vases made out of glass or another material?

  They are made out of glass as far as I know.

  If they are glass you can buy craft paint for them.

check out the range from Rustoleum - you can paint virtually anything with their products - not sure if you can get them in US though

I have painted both glass and metal vases. I choose the paint according to what the vase is made of.

  @Paula Weaver Spray paint I get from Home Depot, or Lowe's craft paint I get from Michaels or Hobby Lobby, or Jo Annes Yes they will say on each one if it will cover glass. and You can use Rustoleum also.

  I use spray paint for all sorts of glass bottles or containers, as long as it is not for food. spray paint will cover a variety of things from plastic, metal glass or wood.

I repaint my vases with spray paint whenever the whim strikes. They are all glass so spray paint works the best. Bright colors can make even wine bottles look special.

I used textured wallpaper on a cracked vase then painted with craft paint. I only use this one for dried arrangements.

I use Krylon or Rustoleum. They say on the labels if they are good for glass. Walmart has the cheapest prices, but Home Depot seems to have a bigger selection. Have fun!

My mom had an old ceramic vase that I spray painted. Turned out great and not dull at all but some of the shine from the original finish kept the finish from looking flat.
