I would like to start a business by making and selling my own Curtains & Cushions. Do you have any new Ideas or suggestions?icon

    Have you ever worked in an upholstery shop? Invaluable experience!!

    Are you going to sew for interior designers or just end customers?

    Do you have an industrial sewing machine as well as a blind hemmer?

    Do you have a large area for a huge cutting table?

    Do you have a business license so you can buy fabrics @ discount?

    Do you know how much you can mark-up your items so you will be profitable?

    Who is going to sew your products?

    How will you find sewers who know how to sew the items you want to sell?

    Have you considered outsourcing them to a low cost supplier in the US?

    Have you search the Etsy shops selling similar items?

    Will this business be a hobby or make a job business? Why are you doing this?

    You will have online competitors, such as the online window coverings sources, Smith and Noble.

    I have working in a upholstery plant in NC. It is a tricky business.

    Everyone starting a new business needs to take a hard look at their business idea before they invest time and money.

    I agree, Ann. Someone starting their own business needs to be able to answer the hard questions at the beginning, in order to not be stuck making mistakes later on. It is harsh, and hard, but necessary. There may also be less competition in ethiopia, with may work to jerry's advantage.

      All comments are useful comments. I would also like to add. Those materials that are unique to you will be better sellers. Think hand printed. Source them out or print your own using block printing. Either, lino, or screen printing. Plenty of advice on Pinterest.
