Does anyone have any ideas for cork type fabric?
I got it to make a tote bag but it is too thick.

How about a case for a your tablet (if you've got one), or maybe working with something smaller like a wallet would work with that fabric.
Cut into circles or squares , paint or decorate one side and you've got coasters.
