Does Home Depot cut glass?

by Lisa

I'd like to know does Home Depot cut glass? I saw this amazing stained glass project on Hometalk that I want to try. I have a few glass panes from old picture frames lying around, but they are bigger than what I need for the project. I need to get them cut down to size. Does Home Depot cut glass to size? There's one in my area and I'm not sure where else I would go to have this done.

This is the project I'm trying to make. Isn't it fabulous? icon

  • You do it yourself with special glass cutting tools you can purchase. Any craft or hobby shop will have basic stained glass project tools.

Thank you Naomie! I appreciate your help. So as far as you know a store like Home Depot would not offer glass cutting as a service and I just need to do it myself? I guess I'm always happy to learn a new skill.

Glass shops cut glass. Auto Glass shops included. Usually they want to sell you the glass too though.

      Thanks Lizbeth.

I don't know of a glass shop nearby so I was hoping I could get it done glass cut in Home Depot. I will have to search for a local glass shop, or do it myself as Naomie suggested. Have a great day !

My high school used to teach crafts, maybe call the art teacher at your local high school?

As long as you are cutting straight lines in the glass, it is not too hard to do on your own. Just wear gloves and glasses and keep a firm grip on the tool, go slowly and carefully.

The tool is not going to cut all the way through the glass, it will score it; which will weaken the glass along that line so that you can snap it apart. Do not "double cut" along the line, which is why you go slow and firm in one stroke. Have fun.

My Home Depot does cut glass, . And Lowes does too. But a glass scoring tool is not hard to use, follow Kates instructions above.
