Drawing on ceramic plate

After using Sharpie markers to draw a design on a Dollar Tree ceramic plate then baking it at 250 for 2 hours the design still comes off when I wash it with Dawn and medium pressure.

Does anyone have a solution? What can be applied to the plate prior to it being baked to prevent the marker from coming off?

  • I've read you have to bake it a 350 degrees for 1/2 hour. Give it a try...good luck!

There are clear sealers made for use on ceramics and then baked Amazon, Michael's)... that would protect your design. If you are using the plates for food... make sure the sealer is food safe... of consider using a clear plate and making your design on the back side

You need to be sure it's a sharpie OIL PAINT marker. The slower the oven, the longer you bake. 250 for 4 hours. It will stay. Seal it after it has cooled.

Or you could use Pebeo markers which are made to be oven fired and are food safe. You can find them at most craft stores or online.
