You need a concrete bit for your drill. I think it’s also called masonry bit. You drill into the mud part (not the brick). You need the blue concrete screw.

Another alternative is to suspend artwork i.e. framed pics, etc. using a length of decorative chain (hardware store) hung on a hook screwed into the ceiling. Use 'S' hook to attach artwork to chain, at desired link height. I used this in a basement for all the pics/clocks, etc. (My walls were white, so I used white chain and it practically disappeared.)
