cheaper to buy them than to buy the foam, the material and then to sew --- BUT you can purchase foam rounds at most large Discount Fabric centers that cater to upholsterers, and they will have the materials as well; round is a difficult shape to get 'right' --

Get a piece of chipboard or very thin wood, trace the top of the stool and use a jigsaw to cut it out (cut on the inside of the trace so it doesn't overhang). get a piece of foam padding and cut to fit on the board, then take your chosen fabric and place is pattern side down on your work surface, put the foam and then the board on top of that. Pull one side and staple, then do the side directly across from the first. Next so another side, then the side directly across from that. If that is confusing, think of it like this.. using a clock, do a staple at the 12 position, then the 6, then the 3, then the 9. This will ensure the fabric is taut. Then you can finish tacking the rest. Trim off the excess fabric, and you should have a nice, round cushion for your stool.
