Headboard and footboard the same.
How do I make a beautiful headboard and footboard for my Hospital bed?

Hi,
I have a challenge if anyone is up to helping me with ideas. I sleep in a hospital bed and everyone knows how ugly they are. The head and footboard are metal to support the frame. Plus, they are low and look plain. I would love to have my bed actually look like a bed. Any ideas?

Hello, my first thought is to make covers for the head and foot boards out of some beautiful fabric that makes you happy. Also maybe a contrasting bedskirt attached in such a way that it doesn't interfere with the mechanism of the hospital bed. One pic in the link I'm leaving you shows the headboard covered with fabric and then it extends all the way up to nearly the ceiling...it's very attractive. Hope some of the ideas in the link inspires you!

Good luck !
you can start out with a vibrant paint color!! might even be able to spray paint...
The fabric sounds nice maybe with some foam behind it. Let us see your final product when you finish it😉
I purchased an antique iron bed that was the same size as my hospital bed. My husband was able to remove the headboard and footboard from the hospital bed and attach the iron one!
You can buy 4 - 1x2 and a piece of uphostery or canvas material. Stretch the material over the 1x2 pieces. You can glue, staple, sew the material. You can use foam under it to give more support and softness in case your head moves too close to the headboard. I did it and it looked good. It takes me a long time to finally complete a project and I am still learning but the nice thing is you can make it as pretty or as practical as you would like to do. Take care oh, I also bought my Mom a sheepskin rug to put on her hospital bed it saved her skin from breaking.
Here’s a few photos, that are very pretty. Make simple quiltedeven padded slip over covers,( I like that one has ruffles attached. The other is a beautiful fabric that hangs on wall and could hide the headboard. And another a beautiful canopy that does the same. The food boards would match those fabrics.
If the metal headboard and footboard can be removed...try going to your nearest Habitat Resale store and purchase two matching interior doors that you like. I recommend trying to find 36" wide. Laying the doors on their sides. measure to fit the bed frame - adding an inch to each side. Cut doors to size. Don't forget to drill holes to attach to frame! Optons to "spruce" up plain doors - how about adding beadboard and 1x2 slats to go around the parameter as trims pieces or use any type of moulding trims from your local hardware stores, use wallpaper or fabric, or simply paint them...the sky is the limit. Then attach new peices to your bed.
