How do we make a cute folding room divider?

Our stairs lead that to the laundry room and garage are also open to the lower level where we have a large area that needs privacy when we have guests staying there.

Go to Restore or other salvage yards & get large exterior shutters. Then use hinges to link them together for folding. Spray painting the shutters will give them a fresh appearance if your not into the rustic farmhouse vibe. Good luck!

The latest idea in doors is sliding "barn" doors. If you have wall room, they are great.
