Real pumpkins even if dipped in varnish will eventally rot. Trust me you do not want to deal with that icky mess. I would find a real good plastic one and enhance with paint. Unfortunately there is no good way of preserving pumpkins. They just rot into a very yucky mess. -

Catherine and Naomie are right.If you want permanent pumpkins, buy artificial ones. As for real ones, appreciate nature, and think of them in the same way as real Christmas trees- they don't last until next year.To every season, turn, turn, turn .........
