i think joann fabrics, if you have a store near you, or even check out resale shops, buy used ones and strip the fabric off for just the padding, even cut a larger one :)

I found out early on to always keep the foam in outdoor cushions. I've even got some from neighbors. This foam, I think, is very expensive when you have to purchase it not to mention the cost of outdoor fabric. I've purchased it at fabric stores in our area, Hancock Fabric and JoAnn's. I've never looked at Hobby Lobby but they might also carry it.

Most fabric stores sell foam padding. and you cut it to the size that you need. JoAnns, Hancock Fabrics or check your local fabric or outdoor furniture stores.

I think Joann Fabrics sells the padding that you're looking for. If not, try the larger stores that sell fabric and upholstery.

I wanted to make an indoor cushion and as I was reading something here on hometalk, someone asked where a good source would be for foam to make a cushion for their built in bench below their bay window. A person answered that she could go to Joanns or to Hancocks but it would be much cheaper to order a convoluted mattress pad and put two together so that the "bumps" face each other (they should be glued with spray glue). I checked the price of them and it was only $15 for a twin size which was more than enough for my needs.

I live in the country, whereas you appear to live in the city. Big difference, The only place to buy fabric out here is Walmart, which carries neither fabric nor foam meant for outdoors. Last summer, I wanted lumbar pillows to accent my patio chair cushions so I found some inexpensive outdoor fabric from Etsy. Then I faced the dilemma of finding stuffing for them. What I found online was more expensive than I wanted to pay. One day, I stumbled on some cheap, cheap outdoor throw pillows at the Dollar store. They were u-ugly, but I only wanted the innards, and I only had to buy a few for the size I wanted, Worked perfectly! It was all one happy accident, which still makes me smile.

Call up the local furniture reupholstering stores and ask if they have any scraps. I've made many large pieces with their left overs.

I did same to mine last year at end of season..I found the random cushions on sale at Walmart were cheaper than buying the foam inserts at Joanne's. Then I just bought fabric and recovered them all to match..all for under $100.

Nancy, thanks for your response. I like your ideas. I live on an island, James island that is a part of Charleston SC where there is a varieties of stores, Lowes, Home Depot, Hancock's, JoAnn's and of course Walmart. But, I appreciate the info on Dollar store.

I saw a post a few weeks ago that said to look at purchasing one of those 4" foam mattresses to cut up to size...you can probably find them on sale soon!
