How do I re-do a half wall?

In my dining room, the front door is next to a half wall dividing the room and the entry way. The wall is about 4 feet high and 5 feet long. Above that are 6 pieces of wood that go to the ceiling that look like banisters. I hate it and can't think of any thing to replace the banisters. The house is a ranch style and was built in 1983. White walls, dark woodwork. Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate it.

hi bella I know exactly the set up you are talking about, if they are still wood color the first thing I would try is just painting them white like the walls that way they wouldn't jump out at you so much, if that doesn't help I can't think replacing them with anything would make it better but my other thought was hanging plants from the ceiling after you remove them hope this helps xx

  • You could just remove them completely (although you should absolutely make sure they aren't supporting the ceiling in any way first). Or you could replace them with stick lumber like 1x4's or a width that matches the width of the half wall. Or narrower even. Or 2x4's. You can stain the wood or paint it.

Hi Bella. You could remove them. You could build a frame around decorative glass and install that. Or frame out a piece of wood and use tile on the wood for a decorative piece. Good Luck!

Some very good ideas here. Thanks for all the suggestions. I like the stained glass one the best!
