Transform a Vinyl Record Into a Piece of Mindful Mandala Art
I had some old scratched vinyl records which instead of throwing away wondered, because of their shape if they would make a nice base to do some mandala mindfulness art on.
I like to use acrylic paint pens as these are like felt tips but with water based acrylic paint in and with a few shakes and presses on the nib they are set to go draw and paint mindfully.
I choose a range of paint pens and In Varied thickness and colours. White is a key colour to show up on the black vinyl background and I guess you can really go with what feels right choice with the pattern in the moment.. mindful designing means go with the flow.
If you can immerse yourself in pattern making and stop the worries of the day for while which is also so good for our mental health then give it a try.
I begin in the centre and use lines and dots radiating outwardly and keep them evenly spaced.
I use the grooves of the track markings as a guide for my next pattern which is so handy and keeps it evenly spaced and balances the designs.
It’s so joyful to paint and do rhythm patterning and I find actually painting to some favourite music helps the mindful experience of mandala making.
I keep working the design around radiating outwards . Alternating colour and patterns
At last I get the edges finished with patterns and fill in any gaps with a few more dots.
I’m so happy with the result and process of therapeutic mindfulness to get there.

What a brilliant idea with so many possibilities! 😍 When I first saw this I thought the design was somehow woven over the album and thus something I'd never be able to do. It was a wonderful surprise to learn all I needed were some pens! Even better, the album's tracks are built-in guides! Thanks so much for sharing this, Susan! I'm passing this along to my friends. 💕
