A lot of times, in this situation, people focus on the walls of the entry, but the 'first impression' is really the wall directly across. Do you have anything special there? What's the current view? I've seen a few different approaches --

    1. An accent wall that fits your color scheme + impressive wall art

    2. Some sort of minimal furniture (thinking something like this): https://www.hometalk.com/diy/living-room/furniture/languish-no-more-little-table-languish-no-more-16699707

In general, you want that wall to be special, not just functional. Do you have a photo of the area so we can brainstorm more?

Put "foyer or entry" in Houzz.com Many great ideas finished that might help

Without a picture, it's hard to suggest what to do. Is there room for a foyer table?

You can also place your couch so that the back of it is what you see when you enter the front door. Place a sofa table behind it with some pretty plants & decorative items on it. That would be a "wall" that would separate your entry from the living room.

I agree with BabyBoomerSC and would do the same with your couch; assuming the size permits that. Another suggestion - you could make a "screen" by hinge-ing together two full-height doors - that would create a "wall".

Or how about one - or two - tall trees; (Ficus, Palm or Fiddle-leaf Fig)? The latter grow VERY fast. My daughter started a cutting for me from her own Fig tree and mine has grown a foot since Christmas!

Maybe a small narrow table across from the door with a mirror over it?

I agree that if you can, put your sofa at an 90 degree angle with the back facing your entry - making a separation. Then a small entry table with some decorative art in the entry to make it it's own special space.
