Need to take off old 8"x8" ugly white tiles on the front of my fireplace and flat hearth. Can you give me some ideas how to remove old and add new!

if they are well affixed you can abrade the old tile and tile right over them. Use a good thinset like versabond. Your edge may be too thick to your liking, if so remove with a cheap wood chisel and hammer from the edge.

You should remove the existing tile first. Put the tip of a pneumatic chisel under tile and watch as the tiles come off. Clean new surface very well. To replace with new tile, Put adhesive on the wall and the back of tile. Put tile in place. Use spacers to keep tiles straight. Continue this process until done. Wait at least a day for adhesive to dry. Grout is next. Wait another day to sponge off surface grout.
