Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jul 22, 2013Normally a marble saddle is used then a carpet edge is placed along that to fasten the carpet down in that area. What depends on the type of carpet edge is the type of carpet it is your trying to finish off.Helpful Reply

Trice dewolf studio on Jul 23, 2013I agree with Woodbridge that one common way is to use the marble strip or saddle. It could also be a wood threshold type of molding used. The exact shape depending on the carpet height.Helpful Reply

Polly Zieper on Jul 23, 2013We Put down a line of rectangular tiles whose color& design matches the floors in the 2 other rooms, when we had to redo the tile in one room, but couldn't afford to retile both rooms, you could do the same.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Jul 23, 2013I fabricated some wood thresholds to cover the transition. I my case these were made from Brazilian Cherry ( Jatoba). I have seen some ready made versions, often called T moulding, in some home centers.Helpful Reply

Hamtil Construction LLC on Jul 23, 2013Normally we would use either a Schluter brand metal transition or we would use marble. Common available marble thresholds are usually white or carrara, so with a dark floor, you are probably looking at a custom marble threshold to get a dark color. If you go with a marble threshold, make sure to use the right height, as there are different thickness options. The marble should be set on underlayment which is mortared down, not directly on the subfloor. Usually the carpet is "rolled" and secured against the marble. As far as Schluter products, there are many choices and finish color options. This one pictured is what we normally defer to for carpet- to - tile transitions. The problem is that with the floor already installed, it is not possible to use the Schluter, and unless a gap was left for the marble, that may or may not work either. With that in mind, a wood transition might be the best option, and stained a color to compliment both floors. I would suggest sourcing options of wood transitions at a hardwood supplier, millwork supplier, or lumberyard. In my experience, home centers do not stock adequate options, and most are prefinished.Helpful Reply

LandlightS on Jul 23, 2013The most common method is the use of a marble saddle and then use a strip of "Z" bar tacked to the floor with a piece of "tac strip" and secure the carpet in place as shown in this diagram, Leave at least 1 inch extra length of carpet to tuck under the edge of the "Z" bar. Good luck,,,,,GaryHelpful Reply

Johnatan Cardona on Jul 23, 2013All the options mention above are common for this job. Also since you have Dark tile, if you are near a lowe's they carry some pre-cut absolute black ganite saddles, and they are not that expensive for the look you'll get. Best of luck. Tanya Peterson Felsheim on Jul 24, 2013We bought specialty threshold to help us transition...I think finding something that wont' show dramatically will be your best bet...something wood is a nice look to me...custom granite ones would be the very best...but spendy.....are you self installing? and as @Hamtil Construction LLC said one of the biggest things is height to watch out for. Good luck let us know which way you go! We were lucky we transitioned from wood to tile and wood to carpet and there were special pieces made for the wood but they were not same as our wood and WOW were they spendy but I'm glad we did looks like no transition at allHelpful Reply
