I have tried several ways that all do not last. I am thinking about using cinder blocks and painting them.

How high did you go with them? We have had raised beds for about 10 years, and the boards are starting to get rotten from watering, etc. We are thinking about cinder blocks. Do you have a photo that you could post, or any advise?

  • 3 feet high and staggered the blocks. Put rebar through all 3 and pored cement inside. Nice and sturdy

We have had the most success using the galvanized horse/stock troughs/tanks.. They come in depths of 1 foot to 2 foot. Lengths from 3 foot to 10 foot and are usually 2 foot wide. They already have a drain plug on the side (but we drill extra holes in the bottom). They are tall enough that most pests like rabbits and gophers cannot get into them. My husband made covers out of shade cloth to help with our intense sun (Phoenix,AZ)

We use the 4 ft long X 2 ft tall X 2 ft wide ones.. because of cost, about $90 at Lowe's or Tractor Supply or ranch supply.... and if you need to move them, just take out the dirt... and 2 people can carry them.
