We are a School and have 50 tiny (third of a pint) empty milk bottles every day. Our present planters need replacing, but of course there is no money for this.
I would prefer not to use a wooden frame. The planters need to be about 60cm square.

I Sure. It can be a hydroponic garden, without soil. Or, you can put a small amount of soil on top of a layer of pebbles, (fish tank rocks are a good size for your tiny bottles) for drainage. Then plant your seeds, lightly mist everyday, until the seeds have germinated, and sent up tender shoots. Then let the soil dry between watering, so you don't rot the roots or plant. Make sure they get sun, but indirect sun till they're fully grown, so you don't cook them. Remember, glass gets hot in the sun, and the soil will dry faster than, say, if you used a paper cup.

I think these would make the cutest little hens and chicken (succulent)holders and would be wonderful gifts to others.
