What is a good tree to plant for year round privacy that grows fast?

Our neighbors who built beside of us are up the hill and therefore their house is very high and can look down on us about 50 to 60 feet above us. We have no privacy in our backyard and we're wanting to plant an evergreen tree to give us a privacy screen, we're on a fixed income and we need to keep that in mind. Thank you

Have you considered bamboo? It spreads well, stays green all years and grows tall.

Bamboo or birch. Just be careful with the bamboo as it can invade the surrounding area.

Go on line and check trees for your planting Zone and you will see they have all kinds of suggestions for height, width, flowering or just plain shade.

I would imagine so, but I would consult a local nursery who can give you all kinds of ideas for your area. I know it grows like wildfire here in TN

Beware of bamboo, it's a real nuisance plant. I have seen yards completely overtaken by it--a nearby house has it growing up through the driveway and sidewalks, many feet from the original plant. NEVER plant the running type of bamboo, only plant the clustering type, if you must plant bamboo. I wouldn't.

I would consult the local cooperative extension for your area, and see what trees they recommend. Or go to a good local nursery (not the big box stores) and ask for recommendations. I also see that West Virginia has a botanical garden in Morgantown--check their website for ideas.
