Hope this helps ... it's great for someone who has a small-average sized family garden in the city or suburbs. Good Luck, Happy Gardening, and thanks for asking Hometalk for help :)

Whatever you use you need to make sure it has air flow and you can get into it to turn it over so it composts and doesn't mold. We have a large yard so I took the head and foot board from a wooden bed frame and added hardware clothe for the sides. The back is the wall of my garden shed, and the front is just a board that is slightly lower and attached to the frame on each end. Its got lots of air flow and is easy to get into it. If you have a smaller area look on craigslist and see if anyone is getting rid of a compost bin cheap. There are some nice ones out there that are hand crank. It can at least give you an idea of how to make one for a smaller space.

Does your municipality distribute them? Worth asking!

Take a clean food grade plastic barrel with a lid on both sides, drill some holes for air flow, fill it up, lay in it's side and roll around the yard. Or Just take some T poles, about 4 of them, make a square, wrap wire around fill it with your vegies and scraps and let sit, or for faster compost turn and water.
